Having learned my trade at an Indiana awards company in the early 80’s, I went into business for myself in 1987. For the next 20 years I was a commercial engraver; making engraved brass nameplates for furniture and cabinet companies & craftsmen. My work is in 10’s of thousands of American homes, and I’m proud of that. To me, engraving has always been more than just a way to make a living. My customers and myself shared a vision – Pride in Craftsmanship. We still do.
I enjoy creating things that are special. And every plate I engrave IS special to the person I’m doing it for. I’m in the business of making memories; not just scratching letters into metal.
Boy Scouts of America
The ML Brown Co is licensed with the BSA. We’re proud to be associated with this fine organization. It’s our pleasure to help provide recognition for a group of outstanding young men; our nations Eagle Scouts.
Errors
I make them, my customers make them – we all do; there’s no getting away from it. But what I can do is cut them down; and my screen shots do that. Before your order is engraved you’ll receive a screen shot of your layout for approval or correction. You’ll be able to see exactly how your plate will engrave. For spotting errors, two pairs of eyes are better than one. In spite of that, sometimes things happen anyway. If that occurs my policy is simple; I pay for my errors and you pay for yours. Strikes me as fair.
Our Products
The M.L. Brown company is a custom engraving business. This covers a lot of territory, but we’re focusing now on engraving to be used outdoors. For this purpose we use anodized aluminum which will hold up to the weather better than everything else save stainless steel. This material is used both for our insert plaques and outdoor plates. Nothing lasts forever and our products are no exception. The most vulnerable aspect is the dye. In direct sunlight this will fade over the years. Anodizing is a chemical process that actually changes the composition of the metal surface; not a paint or finish that’s put on it. In appearance, it’s more like a stain than a paint. The shade of color you see depends on how the light hits it. We shear our own plates from sheet stock and can accommodate your size requirements.
